GASKAP-OH (the Galactic ASKAP survey in OH) is a collaboration under the umbrella of the GASKAP survey. It is expected that members intending to publish work which makes use of GASKAP-OH data will offer the opportunity to all GASKAP-OH members to contribute. In advance of preparing a publication (peer reviewed journal article, conference paper or thesis), a member should submit a publication proposal via this Google form. Once approved by the PIs, the proposal will be distributed to the full collaboration, inviting participation. Information about approved projects will be made available to other team members via email, and the GASKAP-OH wiki.
GASKAP-OH core members who have committed extensive time and resources that have enabled GASKAP-OH science data products (e.g. PIs, Project Scientists, and those who have contributed extensively to data validation, pipeline development and data processing) will be offered co-authorship on an opt-out basis. The PIs maintain a current list of these "builders". All other collaboration members may opt-in to any project via the process outlined here. It is expected that opt-on authors contribute actively to the draft publication.
All team members that plan to use GASKAP-OH data in a project/publication should follow the recommended process for creating and executing a project as part of the GASKAP-OH collaboration.
- A team member completes the publication proposal Google form including a rough abstract, a clear description of which part(s) of the data will be used, the anticipated timeline, expected team members, and whether it is a student/ECR project.
- The GASKAP-OH PIs (Shari Breen and Jo Dawson) preliminarily approve the project and circulate details to the full collaboration within ~1 week.
- Collaboration members will have 2 weeks to sign on to the project/paper or object to it.
- The PIs make the final decision on whether a project is accepted. In cases where conflict is identified, the PIs will work with affected project team members to attempt to mediate an inclusive solution.
- Open projects intended to be student projects can be proposed, but a period of time that is reserved for recruiting a student must be included. After that period has lapsed, the project can be opened up to others.
- The project lead makes a new entry in the GASKAP-OH wiki project pages, including a project overview and list of team members (with expected roles and responsibilities). For student projects the anticipated timeline for student recruitment and thesis submission should be included if appropriate.
- Project leads are expected to keep the wiki and key team members up to date on progress.
- If a project has not started within a year of the proposal submission, it will expire and will need to be resubmitted.
- In cases where no progress is made over an extended period, the PIs may liaise with the project team to determine an appropriate way forward. This may include re-opening the science topic to the broader collaboration.
- The draft should be circulated to the entire GASKAP-OH collaboration, and a date chosen by which team members must respond with comments (with a minimum of 2 weeks response time).
- Other collaboration members may request to be added to (or in the case of GASKAP-OH builders, removed from) the paper at this stage. If the authors feel that an inclusion is inappropriate due to lack of involvement, the matter may be referred to the PIs for a final decision.
